Pretty Alrights is a garage-punk band based in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. The four-piece outfit put on a loud, fast and energetic live show. For fans of Amyl and the Sniffers and Bad Religion. Some big riffs and choruses with harmonies.
Formed by front-woman Julia Beresford, the Pretty Alrights have steadily built a reputation in the region for fun shows and new original music. Julia’s fierce advocacy for women in punk and the band’s willingness to travel around the Maritimes has seen the band make friends wherever they go. They have shared festival stages with the likes of DOA, Back Flag and The Ripcordz.
2026 is a big year for the band with new singles and videos coming out in April and June. The band is also appearing on “Punk Canada Volume 5” - a vinyl compilation also releasing this April. A busy summer of festival shows alongside regular gigs will see the Pretty Alrights on stages around Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The band will also join the Ripcordz on the Maritime leg of their 2026 Autumn tour.
The Pretty Alrights are: Julia Beresford (vocals), Sayer Patterson (bass, vocals), Paul Baskett (guitar, vocals) and Charles Merritt (drums)
We began this group late in 2020 in response to having nothing else to do during the lockdowns. Lunenburg, Nova Scotia used to have a very active skateboard scene up until the late 2000s before disappearing almost entirely and with it our Punk Rock scene.
Fast forward to 2020. Several conversations around the area seemed to indicate that there was a nostalgic need for that scene to come back. Queue the Pretty Alrights! In a shed outside of town a few unlikely miscreants turned on the amps, some for the first time, others for the first time in years. It wasn't always coordinated, it wasn't even very Pretty, but it was a lot of fun in a world that was lacking just that very thing.
Pretty Alrights have always been a 4 piece band, consisting of drums, bass, guitar and a feisty Female Vocalist. Though some of the names have changed over the years, the band has always tried to stay true to a style of Punk Rock synonymous with Atlantic Canada.
